History of the department:
The department of physics was formed in 1952. Following the results of 2004 and 2007 the department of physics was honored a title The Best Department of the University.

Specialties of the department:
Bachelor’s degree programme
050110 - Physics (educational).
Specialization: Physics and Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics
050604 - Physics (natural and scientific).
Specialization: Condensed Matter Physics; Theoretical Physics.
050710 – Material Science and New Materials Technology. (Technical sciences and technologies)
Specialization: Technology and materials modification, nuclear technologies and material sciences.


Scientific mainstreams of the department:
1. External influence on metals and alloys structure and nature.
2. Theoretical and experimental investigations of complexation processes and theirs influences on substances nature through Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometer.
3. Nonlinear physics and synergetic.
4. Problems of the quality of intelligent students teaching in credit education system environment through informational communicative technologies.
5. Basic physics investigation and development of nanostructure technology through metal alloys and composites.
The department of physics cooperates in science with the Kirenskiy Physics Institute (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), Tomsk State University, Physics of Strength and Material Science Institute (Tomsk, Russia), I. Polzunov Altay State Technical University (Barnaul, Russia) and other universities.
